Liow: Malaysia strengthens partnership with Arab Civil Aviation Commission
Following a fruitful visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the Arab Civil Aviation Commission’s (ACAC) 23rd General Assembly, Malaysia and ACAC have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) towards mutual cooperation in training of aviation personnel between our collective nations.
Through this MoU, we are pleased to share our training programmes and courses with participants from ACAC. We are confident that this mutually-beneficial partnership will pave the way for greater collaboration in civil aviation, which in turn will spur economic growth and development.
Malaysia is committed to encouraging knowledge-sharing amongst nations under the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP), particularly in terms of capacity building. This is in line with our support for the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) ‘No Country Left Behind’ initiative.
From technical expertise to development of necessary skills-set, the MTCP courses conducted by the Malaysia Aviation Academy (MAvA) will offer participants on-site training including aerodrome certification, runway safety and aviation security.
We look forward to welcoming aviation personnel from ACAC to MAvA in the near future.
This trip was particularly notable as I had the pleasure of meeting HE Dr Liu Fang, Secretary-General of ICAO, discussing wide range of topics relating to global civil aviation matters. I also had a very fruitful discussion with HE Sulaiman Al-Hamdan, Minister of Transport of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, to further strengthen bilateral ties between our two nations particularly in the rail and aviation sectors.
On behalf of the Government of Malaysia, I took the opportunity to extend an invitation to my peers from ACAC to participate in the third Joint ICAO-World Customs Organization (WCO) Conference on Enhancing Air Cargo Security and Facilitation, which will be held in July 2016 in Kuala Lumpur.
